About this time of year, the battle over the thermostat begins in earnest. We’ve enjoyed a very mild start to the winter, but the solstice has come and gone, and you can count on temperatures becoming seasonal. This means you can also count on your thermostat being the center of many comfort issues. What if we told you we have the perfect solution to your problem? Let us elaborate a little more below.
What Is It?
The solution we refer to is a zone control system. This system is designed for ducted heating and cooling systems. What the system consists of are motorized dampers and a main control panel. But, the first step of any zone control installation is the designation of the zones. Zones can be just about anything you wish: single rooms, a grouping of rooms, a story of your home or an annex of your home. The decision is yours. Once the designation of the zones is complete, your Celco Heating and Air Conditioning technician will install motorized dampers inside the supply side of your ductwork to coincide with the designated zones. The motorized dampers and thermostats of each zone are all connected to the main control panel. This panel is the component in the system that opens and closes the dampers as needed to maintain the temperature in each zone.
Are There Other Benefits?
There are indeed other benefits to using a zone control system other than customized comfort:
- Reduced energy usage – with a zone control system, you can significantly reduce or even turn off the heating (and cooling) in a particular zone if it isn’t being used. You can’t do this with a non-zoned system.
- Reduced wear and tear – when your HVAC system doesn’t have to produce as much heat, it operates less. This results in less wear and tear.
