It’s official: we are in the fall season. While we are enjoying quite a warm one so far, we all know what’s coming. If you have wanted to switch from your oil-based heating system to a natural gas-based one, now is the time to do so, and the heating pros at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning are here to help. Converting is a process, as we’ll explain more about below, but the benefits are most certainly there for the right homeowner.
Switching from Oil to Gas
While we have used the word “switch,” converting from oil to gas is not as easy as just making a switch. There is a process involved, especially if your home isn’t yet connected to the natural gas line in your neighborhood. The process involves a number of steps that the experts and staff at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning will perform, but here is an overview of what connecting to a gas line looks like:
- Full site evaluation
- Coordination with the gas company
- Measuring for the right length of piping
- Installation of piping
- Coordination with the town inspector to inspect the gas connection to the outside of your home
- Inspection of connection
- Finishing of pipe installation inside
- Installment of your new gas heater
Why Make the Conversion?
There are a few reasons why converting from gas to oil can be highly beneficial. First, natural gas tends to be a less expensive fuel than oil. Second, natural gas is a much more clean-burning fuel; in fact, it burns the cleanest of all the fossil fuels. Third, once you have the gas line connected to your home, you can use the fuel for any number of other systems or appliances, including stoves, water heaters and clothes dryers. Lastly, natural gas burns heats very quickly, so if you have a forced-air heating system, it won’t take long for your home to be warm and toasty.
