If your Fairfield County home runs on oil, propane, natural gas or electric baseboard heat, fall is when winter fuel bills start to come to mind. It is also a good time to look at the heat-pump incentives available to Connecticut homeowners, especially if you like the idea of a hybrid system that keeps your existing heat as backup.
Here is a plain-language look at what is available this fall, who qualifies and how Celco Heating & Air Conditioning can help you sort it out.
Save up to $8,150 with available heat-pump incentives on a qualifying 5-ton system
(See the eligibility note at the end of this article.)
Key Takeaways
- A qualifying 5-ton system may receive up to $7,500 through Energize Connecticut, plus a $650 instant incentive on one qualifying cold-climate outdoor unit.
- The example applies to qualifying systems installed and completed between September 1 and December 31, 2026.
- Eligibility depends on your electric utility, your existing heating system, the equipment and the installing contractor.
What Is a Hybrid Heat Pump System?
A hybrid system pairs an electric heat pump with your existing backup heat. It automatically balances comfort, efficiency and outdoor conditions. The heat pump handles heating and cooling for much of the year, and your boiler or furnace is still there as backup.
For many oil-heated homes in our area, this means you can use less oil and stay comfortable without removing the heating system you already have. A heat pump also gives you central cooling in the summer, so one system does double duty.
How the Up-to-$8,150 Figure Works
The figure combines two separate programs:
- Energize Connecticut Energy Optimization. A qualifying 5-ton heat-pump system that replaces or properly integrates with an existing oil, propane, natural-gas or electric-resistance primary heating system may receive up to $7,500.
- New England Heat Pump Accelerator (NEHPA). A $650 instant incentive on one qualifying cold-climate outdoor unit, applied at purchase through a participating distributor.
Together, that comes to as much as $8,150 for a qualifying 5-ton system with one eligible outdoor unit. Actual incentives depend on system size, the existing heating system and program approval. Smaller systems receive less, and incentives may not exceed the project cost.
If you are replacing an existing heat pump, installing cooling only or adding a heat pump to a space that was not heated or cooled before, a different standard incentive generally applies. Our Rebates & Incentives page breaks down which incentive fits which situation.
Who Qualifies
According to current program rules:
- You must be a residential Eversource or United Illuminating (UI) electric customer.
- The heat pump must replace or properly integrate with an oil, propane, natural-gas or electric-resistance primary heating system.
- The equipment, and integrated controls when required, must meet program qualifications.
- The project must be installed by a contractor in the Energize CT Heat Pump Installer Network. Celco participates.
- Inspection, documentation and installation requirements apply.
Incentive amounts and program availability are subject to change, and incentives are not guaranteed.
Why Fall Timing Matters
The example above is based on a qualifying system installed and completed between September 1 and December 31, 2026. Program sponsors set the amounts, and they can change or end without notice. If you have been thinking about a heat pump, now is a good time to get the details.
Planning in the fall also lets you talk through equipment, system size and backup heat before the coldest weeks, instead of deciding after your current system has a problem.
